CNC Milling

CNC Milling is an automated manufacturing process in which cutters rotate, drilling and removing  excess material to form the desired custom shape, cut or finish. This can be performed on small intricate parts as well as large ones.

Milling machines perform sustantially well for mainly metal, wood and a variety of other solid materials. Performing a number of tailored operations, including slot cutting, threading, and rabbeting to routing, planning, and drilling.

CNC milling machines are able to multitask, so therefore have multi-purpose use. Capable of milling and turning materials, whilst clearing any excess material that has been removed. These operations can be performed utilising vertical or horizontal CNC milling machinery.

There are several advantages to CNC milling metalwork, these include:

  • The size and robust construction of milling machines offer support to handle large and heavier machines without damaging itself.
  • Reduces human error, aided through CNC/CAD support.
  • Precise cut and multiple cutters available.
  • Wide range of customization available.
  • Versatile proficiency, perfect for small or large batch production.
  • Greater precision in finishing components when compared to other machinery.

There are a few disadvantages of CNC milling, these include:

  • CNC milling machine setup is more expensive when compared to manual.
  • Operators require sufficient training to operate machinery.
  • Less cost-effective for small batch quantities, due to design and programming.
