Metal Folding

Metal foldingĀ is the stage in metal fabrication which bends or folds sheet metal material or components into a pre-set angle utilising automated press brake machinery.

This machinery uses powerful tensile force to fold and punch material into the required shape. Press Brakes can come in wide range of sizes/presses and can be configured to operate manually or automatically (automated) to support with high volume production.

Metal Folding - Barton International

There are six core manufacturing metal folding techniques. These include air bending, bottoming, coining, folding, wiping bending and rotary bending.

Air Bending: This is the most popular processing technique for metal folding. Where the sheet metal meets the outer edges of the die. The main advantage of this process is the flexibility of product you can manufacture at low tonnage which results in reduced energy cost.

Bottoming: This process powerfully forces the sheet metal into the V opening, reducing coil back and increasing precision.

Coining: The process stamps the sheet metal or component between the punch and die to achieve this. This results in high accuracy and level of repeatability through an automated process.

Folding: This type of metal folding assures that there is minimal risk of surface damage to the sheet metal.

Wiping Bending: This type of metal folding boasts of high levels of repeatability and precision for manufactured components.

Rotary Bending: This type of metal folding is flexible with the capability to produce greater angles above 90 degrees, which compensates for spring-back.

Technical & Project Support

Barton International calls upon the combined experience of Midlands based manufacturing as well as utilising global low-cost partners.

Supplying medium to high volume precision manufactured products. Utilising a diverse range of metal fabrication, metal forging, metal formwork, metal casting, rubber and foam conversion and plastic moulding manufacturing techniques.

Your valued enquiry will be managed by a designated Project Manager, who will offer technical support and full collaboration throughout your project. With on-site support if required, advising the best product solution to suit your application. Barton International have a wealth of manufacturing knowledge and offer CAD support, ensuring cost competitive quotation.

The next phase would be tooling and product testing, supporting our customers with fast-efficient tooling and precision manufactured samples. Upon sample approval Barton International will support with our partners medium to high volume production, with full assembly available within the UK if required.
